Need "Free Labor" This August?

2007 Youth Initiative Ready to Kick Off!

2005 Youth Initiatve

These were the kids who benefited from last year's New Haven 828 Youth Initiative. We brought them in each morning, provided motivation and inspiration from an array of great  speakers from around the area, fed them, and sent them out to work locations throughout the city in the afternoon. For this we paid each one a stipend of $75/wk.

This year there are about 31 High School age kids signed up for the full program. We're expecting to have to limit the special Leadership Summit sessions (see below) to 100 kids.  The dates for the program are (Monday-Friday) July 30 - August  24, 2007.

Can you use some great kids at your New Haven Business this Summer at no cost to you?
We have all but a few of our 31 young people placed in meaningful jobs throughout the city. We're footing the bill, but we're still in need of more safe, indoor jobs located within the city of New Haven.  If you've got something to offer, we'd love to talk with you. Please call Pastor Leslie Foster at (203) 498-2687 or email her at pastorleslie.cotr@snet.net.
Note: We're looking for jobs that will include sufficient work for all 20 of days of the program's duration.

New Haven 828 presents:

"The View from the Top"
Youth Leadership Development Summit

LeadersOur kids need to see a vision for the future that reaches beyond their current environments and circumstances. Further, they need to see themselves as agents and catalysts of positive change in the world that they will soon enter as adults. Toward that end, New Haven 828 is pleased to announce that the four Friday's of this Year's Youth Initiative are being devoted to issues of Youth Leadership Development.

Top leaders in their fields, including,  Rudy Carryl (CEO,  Harbor View Growth Equity Mananagement, LLC), Mayor John DeStefano (Mayor of the City of New Haven), Richard Borer (President, Easter Seals Goodwill Industries, New Haven), and Senator Toni Harp (Connecticut State Senator, 10th Disctrict), will share their wisdom and experience with High School age youth from all over the city of New Haven.

Thanks to a Summer Grant from Empower New Haven, we will also provide lunch and some interactive, hands-on leadership training to up to 100 kids during each of the four sessions.

Attention New Haven Youth Service Providers

These sessions will be held on the Fridays, August 3, 10, 17, and 24, between the hours of 10 A.M. and 12:30 P.M.  at Church on the Rock, 95 Hamilton Street, New Haven CT. Space is limited to 100, so if you would like your kids to be involved, please call Pastor Leslie Foster at 498-2687 or email her at pastorleslie.cotr@snet.net.

  • Child • Sex • Trafficking…These three words should never be used in the same sentence let alone be a reality. But for millions of the world’s most vulnerable citizens these words define their childhood descent into sexual slavery. Many are lured away by false promises, some sold by relatives, countless others abducted; all suffer an assault on their dignity, freedom and safety.

Justice for Children International works toward the abolition of child sex trafficking and exploitation through advocacy, prevention and aftercare. JFCI trains aftercare workers, multiplies safehomes, aids socioeconomic development programs in high-risk communities and provides a voice for these victims of modern-day slavery.
